The Practical Reality Behind The Business

Real-World Experience

Barry Money has worked and led companies and organisations in  franchished industries across the globe. As a franchise consultant with real world experience, Barry understands what it takes to create a dynamic franchised brand.

International Franchise Experience

Barry Money started his career as an international franchise standards consultant in Japan at one of the world's most renowned franchise systems - Toyota. Barry consulted in the international global franchise standards to over 90 countries worldwide, standards including The Toyota Production System, The Toyota Way in Sales & Marketing, Just-In-Time and Retailer Standards (known as Toyota Service Marketing).

Barry was mentored by some of Toyota's most renowned masters of Toyota's franchise capabilities, such as Toyota Management Systems, problem-solving & root cause analysis, operational standards development and strategic planning methods.

Barry perfected his Japanese, was promoted above his Japanese peers to managerial status at a very young age, and became renowned globally as one of the leading exponents of the Toyota's global franchise innovation. Barry was instrumental in introducing kaizen and franchise standards to Australia.

In Australia, Barry Money led corporate functions, including Customer Service, Sales, Marketing, Product Management, Systems and Technology Projects, Quality & Engineering, Export, Logistics & Supply Chain, and Retail Development.

Australian SME Experience

Recognising that Australian SMEs were not fully capitalising on the robust business standards he had applied globally, Barry Money founded a consulting firm to share his international insights.

His expertise helped SMEs implement structured processes and scalable frameworks long before “growth acceleration” became a business mantra. As a result, Barry quickly became a sought-after consultant, with business owners—from close colleagues to industry peers—turning to him for guidance.

His hands-on approach and strategic mindset positioned numerous SMEs for long-term success, bridging the gap between global best practices and the unique challenges faced by Australian businesses.

Lessons from Experience: Real-World Business Expertise

Barry’s journey into the start-up and SME space began with hands-on experience across diverse industries, including technology, training, health and wellbeing, education, and fashion.

Frequently sought after by colleagues and friends for his structuring capabilities and his ability to build scalable processes, Barry quickly developed a deep understanding of business expansion strategies—gaining both valuable insights and hard-earned lessons along the way.

One defining experience came when he invested in a fast-growing fashion accessories business run by his closest friends.

While the business thrived under strategic growth initiatives, an unforeseen exit by his partners - taking both stock and investment - highlighted a critical lesson: success isn’t just about strategy; it’s about strong legal foundations and values-aligned partnerships.

Having navigated the realities of SME and start-up growth firsthand, and bearing some of the scars from his many lessons, Barry now integrates these lived experiences into Bane Enterprises, helping clients build scalable, legally sound businesses with sustainable growth strategies.

Learning from the Masters: Jim’s Group Experience

Following a tenure as a director for a global automotive brand in the Middle East, Barry Money joined Jim’s Group - Australia’s largest and most recognised home-grown franchise network.

In his role, Barry led and supported multiple franchised divisions, restructured underperforming functions, and played a key role in refining the sales and marketing model.

This initiative enabled Jim’s Group to serve customers beyond its traditional reach - both geographically and functionally - through a technology-driven platform. This innovation later evolved into a go-to marketplace for independent contractors, allowing them to access unserviced leads directly from Jim’s Group.

Barry was also appointed to lead Jim’s Group’s feasibility study for a potential IPO, assessing the strategic and financial implications of taking the franchise network public.

Working alongside Founder Jim Penman and a highly skilled leadership team, Barry gained invaluable insights into customer service excellence, franchise system standards, negotiation, and the franchisor’s role in driving innovation.

This experience further shaped his expertise in building and sustaining successful franchise networks.

Barry transitioned from Jim’s Group to further develop his C-suite career, focusing on executive leadership and business growth.

Lessons in Ethics: Strengthening the Franchising Industry

Australia’s franchising industry has faced challenges, with many systems struggling to scale beyond moderate growth. Through his extensive work with aspiring franchisors, Barry Money has reflected deeply on the factors that drive long-term success.

Following several C-suite roles, including CEO of a peak body in the highly franchised real estate sector, Barry was approached by Rod Young, a well-known franchising consultant, to lead the turnaround of the underperforming group of family-owned companies, known as DC Strategy.

As Group CEO, Barry quickly identified operational inefficiencies, human and structural obstacles that hindered the company’s ability to deliver meaningful end-to-end franchising solutions.

Despite these obstacles, Barry Money built a strong, motivated team and salvaged the profitability of two out of the three accessible, family-owned entities within a very short timeframe.

Rod Young was a strong mentor imparting much of his conceptual franchising experience to which Barry added his real-world approach.

When an agreed equity acquisition was withdrawn, Barry chose to establish his own group of companies - Bane Enterprises and Bane Franchising & Commercial Lawyers - alongside long-time business collaborator and franchising law guru, Neda Whelan.

Built on the ethical platform of truthfulness, dependability, and a growth mindset, Barry is committed to differentiating Bane Enterprises from other franchising consultants by delivering high-integrity, effective, end-to-end franchising solutions that support sustainable business success.

Bane Enterprises is now the destination for ethical, efficient, effective, end-to-end franchising solutions.
